Driving his red, white and blue No. 27 LESA Automotive car in front of a record crowd of nearly 400,000 fans, Austin Kaszuba of Burleson, Texas, earned fast-lap time in the F4 U.S. Championship Powered by Honda season finale on the same track as Formula 1 all-stars Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel during the Circuit of the Americas F1 United States Grand Prix weekend Oct. 20-22. “Racing in front of such a massive crowd all weekend was an incredible experience. I could hear them at times cheering over the motor,” said Kaszuba. “This experience wouldn’t have been possible without LESA Automotive and the support of my team.”

Kaszuba’s F4 U.S. season ended placing 15th overall nationally (out of 48 competitors) with one podium visit, earning one pole start and two fast laps.

“Results aside, we had an amazing weekend and gained closure for the season. The opportunity to race on the same weekend as the F1 drivers I idolized as a young karter, is an experience I will never forget.”

Industry Stats: Facebook and YouTube Weigh-In on Automotive Video

We sat in on a presentation by head of Facebook Automotive and an executive from Youtube at Digital Dealer 23 and our claims were confirmed: video is influential! 46% percent of shoppers who watch video are still visiting a dealership afterward. Here are some of the slides used in the presentation with other useful stats about video and the automotive industry.

New Feature Alert!

Introducing ConstaFrame, the newest feature in the Dealer Video Inventory app. This tool is designed to help you create stable, near-perfect exterior walk-arounds each time you create a vehicle video, bringing consistency and balance to your library of inventory videos. It has three main features that make shooting a clean, stabilized walk-around easier than ever:
1. It’s stabilization alert will tell you if the camera is tilted too far to the left or right.
2. The framing brackets assist you in keeping the vehicle centered in the frame at all times.
3. The degree meter will show you when you have made a full circle around the vehicle, making the guide-brackets disappear for interior shots.Check out the video to see a full demonstration!

Adding your face to customer outreach videos can familiarize shoppers with you and your dealership at the same time. The added personalization of your tailored message establishes trust before they even set foot in your showroom. In the past, car shoppers visited an average of 5 dealerships before making a purchase. They’re still doing this, but the process of narrowing down which dealership to visit in person has moved online! It is now the responsibility of today’s salesperson to bring the showroom to the shopper, and personalized vehicle walk-arounds and promos are essential tools for doing just that.

Cars.com App Update

Cars.com, after much prodding from users, has finally made videos available on their app. This means that your LESA inventory videos are now playable in one of the most popular car-shopping interfaces around! Using apps such as this is most likely the preferred method of shopping for most consumers as it is easier than interacting with a web-browser and optimized for mobile ease-of-use. Traditional TV viewing is on the decline. According to a recent Nielsen report, TV viewing decreased for almost every age group, most drastically among Millenials (25% over 5 years). A demand for convenience-viewing via streaming services like Netflix and video hosting sites like YouTube has moved video viewing online, making ad dollars spent on traditional television and radio commercials increasingly more less effective. LESA and Fox Dealer Interactive introduce REVS, a first-to-market video retargeting ad platform for your entire vehicle inventory. In conjunction with LESA’s full-motion inventory videos, the REVS retargeting system serves VIN specific video ads to your customers as they move about the internet after interacting with your website. This keeps your inventory fresh in their minds as they make purchasing decisions. Check out this informative video to learn more about what this winning partnership can do for you.

Important Google update

Improved Mobile Results

Google video search results are now displayed horizontally on mobile device browsers. Users can scroll through them, as demonstrated here, to see multiple videos in a dealer’s channel that also fit the search criteria. This is a huge improvement over the previous vertical display method, which often limited the number of videos that could be displayed on the front page to two or three (horizontal display allows for 10 organic search results only).

So what does this mean for a dealership using LESA videos? Firstly, the horizontal orientation allows for more results to be displayed from one channel. Vertical video search results took up too much real estate on the first page, so it was common for only 1 to 2 to displayed. Now users can scroll through 5-10 videos at a time. And since vehicle videos will now organically occupy these coveted top page spots, dealers will no longer have to spend as much money paying Google Adwords with the LESA video inventory program.

Dealer Video Suite Update

  • Upload directly to Facebook: rather than posting a link to a video hosted by YouTube, videos will now be directly uploaded to Facebook from the app. This will allow videos to silently auto-play for viewers scrolling through their news-feed, improving video exposure and click-through rates.
  • Google Analytics tracking: The Dealer Video Suite is a must-have video toolbox for any dealer wishing to promote their dealership, but getting a sales-team motivated to use it can be challenging. By providing your Google Analytics ID, dealership management can now track video creation and sales team engagement to assure maximum app efficacy and return on investment.
After your ID is entered into our database, you can access these stats by logging into your Google Analytics account, finding the Dealer Video Suite link, and clicking Behavior>Events>Overview.

LESA and Cobalt/CDK (one of the leading website providers for car dealers) have a close and rewarding relationship. As a result of this collaboration we are now able to make LESA video the first thing a shopper sees when they enter the vehicle details page. The result, of course, was an explosion of video plays: one dealer experiencing a jump from 817 total views to 7126 views in the span of one month! They also received an additional 11 leads just from customers filling out the request more info form after the video. More proof that consumers are looking for video to help them learn more about vehicles while they perform shopping research.

Video Retargeting with Revs

Revs logo
You’re probably very familiar with the practice of product retargeting: click on a product on Amazon, go to another website, and chances are you’ll see an ad for that very same product somewhere on the page. It’s an effective tactic used by a growing number of businesses online, so effective that 70% of shoppers exposed to retargeted ads convert to customers.Revs is a retargeting product for the automotive industry that takes this concept a step farther. It retargets to the VIN level with full-motion video rather than still images. Customers watch full-motion videos by LESA on a dealer website, navigate to another webpage within the distribution network, and see a custom video ad of the same vehicle they were just looking at generated as either video pre-roll or as a sidebar video ad.

The partnered distribution network is large, featuring prominent sites such as CNN, Forbes, CNET, ESPN, Huffington Post, Foxnews.com, MSN.com, Yahoo, and many more.

To find out how your dealership can enroll in the Revs retargeting program, please send and email to sales@lesautomotive.com or call us at 1-877-829-2328

Vehicle Video and “Micro Moments”

A Google Study

It’s no secret that the bulk of the vehicle shopping process takes place online these days. 2014 Statistics from J.D Power say that the average shopper spends about 14 hours conducting research online before ever entering a dealership. In addition to that, a recent study by Google emphasizes the importance of online “micro” moments (times when shoppers turn to digital devices for quick vehicle info) and the influence video has on shoppers during the time when they are deciding which vehicle is best and which out of those is right for them.

The “Which-Car-is-Best?” Moment

During this first stage of the research process, shoppers consult forums, friends, and review sites to figure out exactly which cars are best out of the multitude available to them. YouTube is a popular place to start and the Google study showed that an astonishing 69% of those who used it to research vehicles were influenced by what they saw.

69% of people who used YouTube while buying a car were influenced by it - more than TV, newspapers, or magazines.

Thanks to our white-hat SEO methods, LESA videos are present during this more general stage of the research process. Dealers signed up with our video program often find their videos on the front page of Google by using fairly broad search queries.

Google search results with video
A LESA video on the front page of Google

The “Is-it-Right-for-Me?” Moment

In this stage of research, a shopper is realistically refining results. They are interested in fuel economy, seating, features, body-style, and other vehicle characteristics that will tell them if the car they’re looking at fits in with their lifestyle. Videos, unsurprisingly, rank very highly at this juncture. Three types of video in particular are shown to be valued above others:

Time spent watching test drives, features and options, and walkthroughs for videos went up 2x in the past year

A LESA Video combines two of these elements into one product. Vehicle features and options are described by real, human voiceover talent over a 360, interior/exterior video of an actual car on a dealer’s lot.

Testimonial App Revamp

The Dealer Video Testimonial App is about to experience some big changes! Aside from a name update (it will now be called the Dealer Video Suite), two new features will now be available. Along with the classic testimonial and thank you video features, users who are also enrolled in or video inventory program will now be able to add an existing vehicle video from a library to a walk-around message. This will facilitate the walk-around creation process for sales-team members (those not signed up with video inventory services can still shoot walk-around videos themselves if they wish).

Video inventory screenshot

All users, non-inventory clients included, will be able to text message all video types (testimonials, thank-you, and walk around) to a customer’s cell phone for on-the-go viewing and sharing.

New video message

The app interface is also set to receive an upgrade, improving its look, feel, and functionality. You can expect to see the Dealer Video Suite in the app store in the first quarter of 2016. All existing testimonial customers will receive optional transitional training.
Don’t have the app yet? Give us a call at 1-877-829-2328 or send us an email at sales@lesautomotive.com to find out how to sign up!

DIY Program

One of the most frequent questions we get from potential DIY clients regarding the need for our inventory video services is “Can’t I just do this myself?” And the answer is, sure! You can shoot the video yourself, but that’s only a small fraction of the process. Without LESA, a do-it-yourself dealer will have to perform voiceover narration (either during or after the video shoot), upload each video individually to their website and YouTube, and then still not be able to publish to Autotrader, Cars.com, or any other third-party site that requires video syndication.

LESA does all of this for you automatically. Our simplified process requires an employee to simply download our software for Android, iOS, or PC, shoot and match the video to a stock number, and upload to us. LESA takes care of the rest by publishing the videos your website (mobile included), Autotrader, Cars.com, and to YouTube with automated SEO tags, titles and descriptions. You’ll also get the benefit of our real, human voiceover, choice of background music, and video intros and outros. Additionally, with the Vid2Pic photo extraction software option, you’ll no longer have to take photos. Simply extract 12, 40, 60 photos from the existing video you already shot.

Happy Holidays from LESA

We’d like to end this newsletter, and this year, on a warm note. There are plenty of news stories circulating currently that are upsetting, and downright scary, but it’s important to remember that goodness does exist and is often under-reported. We’d like to thank our friends at Mike Shaw for the following story of kindness and humanitarianism during the holiday season. Keep up the good work!

Digital Dealer Recap

Earlier this month, LESA showcased its full-motion video products at our first ever booth at the Digital Dealer 19 expo in Las Vegas. Unlike the NADA convention (at which we also had a booth this year), Digital Dealer has a narrower scope and focuses on how digital technology can be utilized effectively by a modern dealership. Needless to say, being a full-motion video company, we fit in nicely and attracted many excited people looking for video.

Our marketing director, Tracy Barbatti (pictured above), had a very positive show experience, stating,”Video was a hot topic at Digital Dealer 19. Dealerships are finally giving their customers full-motion video…They get it!.”After such a warm reception in Las Vegas, we are looking forward to a repeat experience at Digital Dealer 20.

LESA certified logo

LESA Certification Program

We at LESA have an obsession with quality. Good enough is never enough and we don’t mind going the extra mile (or 100) to make sure that each and every one of our client videos meets a very high standard of excellence. The LESA Certification Program is our the newest way of ensuring that those standards are met across the board. The program is being rolled out voluntarily to all LESA partners, however we highly encourage participation. Because they will have gone through our extensive training, those who choose to complete the program will be promoted to incoming clients over those who do not. Dealers using LESA certified representatives can rest assured that their vehicle videos will be of the highest quality.

Certification will be awarded when videos comply with the following three criteria: vehicle framing (keeping the car in shot at all times), pace (not moving from shot to shot too quickly), and stability (no shaky videos). In addition, all incoming reps will undergo a specific training program.

We are hopeful that the application of these standards will result in an even more remarkable video program for your dealership. If you have any questions regarding videographer certification, please contact us at sales@lesautomotive.com or call us at 1-877-829-2328.

LESA Stat Portal Upgrade

It’s now possible for dealers and reps to instantly access video viewer stats with a click of a button. By logging into our new portal, you can view daily view counts and other viewer metrics like:

Vehicle views stats chart
Views by city stats chart
Platforms stats chart

You can even view in-depth metrics regarding number of leads garnered from the video lead form (for customers using the LESA video player only), vehicle year, make, and model, and more! If you’d like to see a sample of a full stat report, click here

Graph showing shopper actions after watching video

The numbers don’t lie: video is used to make shopping decisions. As you can see from the above Google data, 49% of vehicle shoppers who watched a video during product research were motivated to visit a dealership afterward. There’s no better time than now to add LESA video to your dealership. So, what are you waiting for?

Without leaving the comfort of home or slogging through pages of text, they’ll learn about a vehicle’s fuel economy, safety ratings, performance stats, standard and added features, and more. They’ll even be able to watch as the vehicle completes a test course.

Cross-promotion Special

One of our valued customers, Lombard Toyota, is already a satisfied user of VehiclesTEST’s review videos. Paired with LESA’s vehicle-specific videos, Lombard Toyota shoppers are able to use both video types to not only inform themselves of a vehicle model’s details in general, but to also get to know a specific car at the dealership. Starting now, LESA is running a cross-promotion with VehiclesTEST: If both LESA and VehiclesTEST video packages are ordered together, you will receive a combined 15% off. This offer runs out October 31st, so contact us quickly to save!

Launch of Video Service App: OpsVid

LESA is pleased to announce the launch of the OpsVid Video Service app. This new app will allow a dealership service advisor to send videos to customers to visually explain needed repairs and document vehicle check-in inspections. Digital Dealer Workshops Seattle
Headshot of Tom Rocha
On February 12th, Tom Rocha had another opportunity to speak in a Digital Dealer Workshop session in Seattle, WA.About the experience he said,”Aside from being able to impart knowledge, which I am always excited to do, I was able to increase my professional development by sitting in on some sessions given by Larry Bruce and Kathy Cruz.”

We anticipate many more successful ventures into the talk circuit from Mr. Rocha this year.

Testimonial User Highlight
The above testimonial video was produced by Taylor Chrysler Dodge Ram, a LESA testimonial app user since May of last year. They go above and beyond to create these wonderful videos with a branded backdrop, hand-held microphone, and overhead lighting. And it pays off! They have excellent SEO and their viewership is through the roof. This particular video has 71 views! Great job, guys.

Dealers struggle to cope with waves of incoming sales pitches

Man in a suit superimposed on a large ocean wave with a building beneath him
According to a February 2nd article in Automotive News, dealers these days are being assaulted with constant vendor inquiries. Suppliers of digital goods are particularly overwhelming for those interested in modernizing their dealerships.Steve Cook, a manager at Cook Chevrolet-Buick in Vassar, Michigan, receives an average of 30 emails a day from digital vendors urging him to invest in their services…or else.”We’re being told that we’re backward if we’re not doing them. We’re still being told that it’s the way of the future, but we’re being talked into things that I don’t think work.”

So how should a dealer sort through the host of solicitors they are faced with on a daily basis? According to the article, it’s by asking other dealers. “Dealers tend to be honest with their fellow dealers,” said Mark Rikess, a Los Angeles sales and process consultant. And he’s right. Who better to trust when adding a service to your dealership than somebody else already using it?

That’s where we at LESA set ourselves apart from the onslaught of insistent vendors. Members of our ever-expanding client base take notice of the quality of our full-motion videos, the traffic they bring to their site (and ultimately their lots), and the world-class customer service we provide. They appreciate the positive changes we bring to their operation and then pass this information on to other dealers within their groups. It’s easy: provide people with high quality products and service and watch your reputation bloom.
